Apply now » Date: 30 Mar 2026 Location: Copiapó, III Region, Chile Kinross’ La Coipa mine is located in the Atacama Region in northern Chile, approximately 1,000 kilometers north of Santiago and 140 kilometers northeast of Copiapó. La Coipa poured its first gold bar in March 2022 after resuming operations following suspension in 2013. Kinross is conducting an exploration program to potentially extend the mine’s life. Kinross Chile has built strong relationships with its host communities based on trust and respect through engagement and consultation. The operation is powered 100% by non-conventional renewable energy to meet its power requirements. Job Description Ensure geotechnical stability of the open pit and other mining infrastructure (waste dumps, stockpiles, leach pads) through rock mass analysis, modeling, and monitoring, managing geotechnical risks and providing technical support to mine planning, operations, and regulatory processes. Job Responsibilities * Coordinate technical teams and external consultants. Review geotechnical reports and ensure technical quality of studies. * Ensure updates to rock mass geotechnical and geomechanical models. Integrate geological, structural, and hydrogeological information to optimize pit design. * Define and supervise geotechnical drilling campaigns, geomechanical characterization, structural mapping, and data quality control. * Conduct slope stability analyses for the pit, waste dumps, and others. Review geotechnical parameters and validate bench and inter-ramp designs. Propose mitigation measures for instabilities. * Identify critical geotechnical risks and define operational controls. Participate in geotechnical event analyses and safety reviews. * Analyze data from slope radars, prisms, piezometers, and instrumentation. Interpret displacement and pore pressure trends to detect risks. * Provide geotechnical criteria for mining sequence, ramps, pit phases, and waste dumps. Evaluate geotechnical impact across various planning processes. * Support preparation of technical documentation for sectoral permit processes and regulatory reporting. Collaborate with environmental and legal departments to deliver required geotechnical information to regulatory authorities such as the National Geology and Mining Service (SERNAGEOMIN) and the Environmental Superintendency (SMA).
