Join our Project Excellence / Centre of Excellence team as a Principal – Project Controls, where you will play a pivotal role in elevating project performance across the business. In this role, you will shape the success of capital projects by providing independent assurance, technical expertise, and strategic insight across the full project lifecycle. You will ensure that estimates, cost management practices, and controls align with corporate standards and industry best practices, while actively contributing to their continuous improvement. Working cross\-functionally across regions and project teams, you will drive consistency, strengthen governance, and enable data\-driven decision\-making. This role calls for strong influencing and engagement capabilities, integrating planning, risk, and commercial perspectives to uplift capability and foster a high\-performance culture aligned with organisational values. **Main Responsibilities** * Provide expert review and assurance of project estimates, budgets, cost performance, and associated controls across all lifecycle phases. * Assess and validate methodologies, assumptions, contingency, and cost drivers to ensure robust and reliable project outcomes. * Define, implement, and continuously improve project controls standards, processes, tools, and frameworks. * Support governance through participation in project reviews, benchmarking activities, and identification of systemic risks and improvement opportunities. * Drive integration across estimating, cost control, planning, risk, and commercial functions to enable aligned and data\-driven decision\-making. * Influence and engage with stakeholders across functions, assets, and regions to embed a consistent and scalable approach to project controls. * Build capability across project teams by coaching, mentoring, and providing practical guidance aligned with standards and service offerings. * Champion a culture of care and high performance by supporting leaders and teams with tools, insights, and strategies aligned with organisational values. * Lead and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the effectiveness, efficiency, and predictability of project delivery. * Support the development and refinement of frameworks, strategies, and governance structures to enable successful project outcomes **About You** ------------- * Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business (Finance/Accounting), Quantity Surveying, or a related field. * Solid experience in Project Controls (Estimating and/or Cost Control), ideally within mining or major capital projects. * Experience contributing to project reviews, assurance, or governance activities. * Strong understanding of project controls processes across the full project lifecycle. * Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders and communicate effectively across all organisational levels. * Proven capability to collaborate across teams and drive alignment and consistency. * Experience supporting continuous improvement of processes, tools, or standards. * Fluency in English and Spanish (written and spoken). **Work Model** This role is based in Santiago, Chile, with a flexible 3\-2\-1 hybrid model: **Why You’ll Love Working Here** At BHP Chile, we understand that to give your best, you need to feel your best.
