We are seeking a highly experienced Lead Cloud Operations Database Architect to design, implement, and govern our enterprise data architecture that supports regulated clinical research systems. This role is responsible for all database\-related aspects across Microsoft Azure and AWS cloud environments, ensuring performance, security, and compliance with GxP, FDA 21 CFR Part 11, and ICH\-GCP regulations. The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise in MS SQL, Azure SQL, AWS RDS, and Cloud SQL platforms in high volume production environment with strong leadership in data governance, architecture design, and lifecycle management for mission\-critical clinical trial cloud based database systems **As part of our team, your main responsibilities will be:** * Architecture \& Design: Develop and maintain enterprise\-scale data architectures supporting clinical trial systems, ensuring high availability, scalability, and security across Azure and AWS environments. * Database Administration \& Operations: Oversee all aspects of database setup, configuration, backup/recovery, replication, and performance optimization for MS SQL, Azure SQL, Cloud SQL, and RDS instances. * Regulatory Compliance: Establish and enforce database procedures aligned with clinical and regulatory frameworks (e.g., GxP, 21 CFR Part 11\). Partner with QA/Compliance to support audits and validation activities. * Security \& Data Integrity: Implement robust access controls, encryption, monitoring, and logging mechanisms to safeguard sensitive clinical and patient data. * Automation \& DevOps Integration: Automate database provisioning, patching, and schema deployments via CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (e.g., Terraform, OpenTofu, ARM templates, AWS CloudFormation). * Cross\-Functional Leadership: Collaborate closely with Engineering, Project Management and Compliance teams to align data strategies across the enterprise. * Monitoring \& Optimization: Design and implement proactive alerting, capacity planning, and performance tuning to maintain system reliability and speed. * Documentation \& Standards: Maintain detailed architecture diagrams, SOPs, and technical documentation to support validation and internal audits. **You’ll need to bring:** * Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (Master’s preferred). * 10\+ years in database architecture/administration, including 5\+ years in cloud environments (Azure/AWS). * Expertise with MS SQL Server, Azure SQL Database and AWS RDS including strong proficiency in SQL queries and stored procedures * Proven experience supporting regulated (GxP/FDA) environments. * Strong understanding of data security, governance, and compliance in life sciences or healthcare settings. * Proficiency with IaC tools, monitoring platforms (CloudWatch, Azure Monitor), and automation scripting (PowerShell, Python, or Bash). * Strong communication skills and experience engaging with cross\-functional technical and clinical teams. **We’d be thrilled to hear that you also have:** * Experience integrating with clinical data systems (CDMS, EDC, LIMS). * Familiarity with Snowflake datalake architectures and ETL/ELT pipelines. * Certifications in Azure Database Administrator, AWS Database Specialty, or equivalent cloud credentials.
