Job Description Responsible for the short- and medium-term mine planning process, translating the budgeted mine plan into executable weekly, monthly, and annual sequences that the operation is capable of delivering. This role is accountable for the integrity, cadence, and quality of the short- and medium-term planning workflow—not for budget development—in accordance with MDO and Kinross policies, standards, and procedures. Job Responsibilities * Develop weekly, monthly, and annual mining plans aligned with the budgeted mine plan; this role executes the budget, not develops it. * Generate and evaluate extraction alternatives and sequencing strategies to improve operational performance, cost efficiency, and safety within the framework of the approved plan. * Develop detailed design for the short- and medium-term horizon: definition of benches and extraction polygons, ramp and access design, and operational detail of phases and advance lines—consistent with long-term phase designs. * Calculate fleet requirements, productivity, and material movement for the planning horizon, and identify where equipment availability constrains plan delivery. * Propose, advise, and coordinate with other departments to ensure mining operations (drilling, blasting, loading, hauling, roads, and auxiliary activities) align with the plan across all planning horizons. * Provide planning and sequencing inputs required by the geometallurgy team, without assuming primary responsibility for geometallurgical analysis. * Administer and maintain the short- and medium-term planning cycle: cadence, timelines, required inputs from each department, and sequence of deliverables. * Define and maintain planning standards, conventions, and templates (nomenclature, coding, solid and block conventions, versioning, and issuance control) to ensure plans are traceable and reproducible. * Coordinate dependent inputs—including Surveying, Geology and grade control, geotechnical constraints, Operations feedback, and drilling and blasting programs—and escalate when such inputs are late or incomplete. * Maintain documentation and traceability of issued plan files, including design files and surfaces upon which each plan was built. * Conduct routine plan review and handover sessions with Operations to ensure field understanding of the issued plan. * Identify and drive continuous improvement opportunities within the planning workflow. * Maintain operational and up-to-date planning hardware and software—including the Deswik environment, its licenses, module versions, and configuration—in collaboration with the Senior Mine Planning Engineer. * Jointly maintain a reliable, up-to-date as-built and survey base for the mine, ensuring timely and accurate records of mining progress. * Support migration from legacy platforms to Deswik, including reconstruction of workflows, template development, and knowledge transfer. Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering. Four (4) years or more of mining planning experience, with demonstrable open-pit experience in short- and/or medium-term horizons. * Construction and sequencing of mining plans for weekly, monthly, and annual horizons. * Phase detailing, bench design, extraction polygons, ramps, and accesses. * Fleet requirement calculation and productivity modeling for the planning horizon. * Plan vs. actual reconciliation and deviation analysis against the budgeted mine plan. * Sufficient cost knowledge to assess the operational feasibility of a plan. Proficiency in Deswik.CAD, Deswik.LHS, Deswik.Sched, and Deswik.OPSTS is highly desirable; capabilities in Deswik.Sched and Deswik.LHS are central to daily delivery. Class B driver’s license.
