At AES, we are seeking a candidate to fill the role of **Senior BESS Systems Engineer** to join our team. **Work Location:** Nueva Torre Santa María, Santiago or Antofagasta, Chile. **Work Modality:** Hybrid, administrative schedule, with availability to conduct periodic site visits to plants and assets located across various regions of Chile. The person in this role will be responsible for leading and ensuring specialized technical support for battery energy storage systems (BESS), guaranteeing safe, efficient, and reliable operation of renewable assets. They will manage advanced technical analyses, lead investigations of complex failures, develop engineering studies aimed at optimizing system performance and lifespan, and serve as the organization’s technical reference for energy storage. Additionally, they will play a key role in defining operational strategies, standardizing best practices, and implementing initiatives that maximize the reliability, availability, and value of BESS assets within AES’s portfolio. **Responsibilities:** * Lead and coordinate technical support for BESS systems—including batteries, BMS, PCS, inverters, and auxiliary systems—ensuring correct operation and integration. * Analyze critical events and complex failures using Root Cause Analysis (RCA) methodologies to identify root causes and define corrective and preventive actions. * Manage and develop technical studies related to degradation, charge/discharge cycles, operational performance, dispatch strategies, and power control of BESS. * Evaluate and optimize the technical performance, reliability, safety, and lifetime of lithium-ion batteries. * Lead high-complexity failure analyses related to energy storage systems. * Coordinate technical support and engineering resources for the operation and maintenance of photovoltaic plants and BESS. * Define and implement standards, methodologies, and best practices for technical analysis and management of PV and BESS assets. * Ensure technical, regulatory, and compliance adherence for studies, projects, and technical support activities. * Provide technical support for planning and execution of CAPEX and OPEX budgets associated with operations and maintenance. * Prepare technical reports and executive summaries to support decision-making. * Drive continuous improvement, standardization, and adoption of new technologies related to energy storage. * Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Asset Management, Engineering, Projects, Commercial, Safety, and strategic suppliers. **Requirements:** * Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Automation Engineering, Industrial Control Engineering, or related fields. * Minimum of 5 years’ experience in operation and maintenance of energy, electrical, or industrial assets. * Experience with battery energy storage systems (BESS), photovoltaic systems, and/or power electronics. * Experience analyzing complex failures and conducting Root Cause Analysis (RCA). * Knowledge of industrial control systems, SCADA, PLCs, and monitoring platforms. * Experience in commissioning, start-up, or technical support of energy assets. * Knowledge of power electrical systems and associated equipment used in generation plants. * Experience collaborating with suppliers, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams. * Availability for occasional travel to plants and projects within Chile. * Valid Class B driver’s license (preferred). * Strong analytical capability, results orientation, and ability to solve complex problems. * Excellent communication and collaborative teamwork skills. **This position is also open to persons with disabilities, in accordance with Chilean Law No. 21\.015 on Labor Inclusion.**
