




Position Summary: Continuous Improvement Engineer responsible for optimizing maintenance processes by identifying and implementing improvements to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance safety. Finning, CATERPILLAR's strategic partner and leader in equipment and service distribution, is seeking top talent to fill the role of **Continuous Improvement Engineer for the El Abra Contract**, who will be responsible for optimizing Finning's field maintenance processes by identifying and implementing improvements, promoting a culture of continuous improvement, and measuring results. This will reduce costs, improve equipment safety and availability, benefiting both Finning and its customers. **Key Responsibilities:** **1\. Safety** * Stay informed about compliance with safety and environmental policies during task execution. * Ensure adherence to safety procedures. * Participate in and/or lead identification of potential risks in the tasks performed and interactions involved. * Participate in and implement continuous improvement activities to maintain the currency and effectiveness of HSEQ procedures. **2\. Idea Generation Source** * Complete assigned items on the improvement card: idea description, area, date, worker's name. * Deposit the improvement card (Card) into the "New" column of the Continuous Improvement Board. * Track the status of the improvement card (Card). * Support implementation and/or development of opportunity areas or improvement ideas as required. * Monitor adherence to established completion deadlines. * Validate successful implementation of the idea. **3\. Coordinator** * Encourage staff participation in the continuous improvement system. * Serve as the initial filter for improvement cards from your area's process. * Complete assigned items on the improvement card within 24 hours of submission by the initiator. * Assign a sequential number to the improvement card. * Ensure correct completion of the improvement card by the idea generator. * Interact with the idea generator to define the root cause of the problem. * Classify the problem under relevant indicators. * Define and mark with the appropriate adhesive label the support leader who will develop an action plan as applicable. * Ensure appropriate follow-up is conducted for the improvement card. * If the improvement idea is not accepted, record "No action required" in section (3\) Solution/Defined Action Plan. **4\. Leader** * Visit the Continuous Improvement Board daily to verify if improvement cards have been assigned to you. * Discuss with the improvement idea generator to fully understand the root cause of the problem. * Develop an action plan to achieve the improvement. * Update the implementation status of the improvement card. * Complete the improvement card with the target completion date. * Collaborate with KPI owners of maintenance processes to drive improvements using improvement plans. **5\. Administer Quality Circle** * Maintain stock of improvement cards in the Continuous Improvement Board slots. * Verify full compliance with the process described in this procedure. * Record idea information in the Excel administration sheet for the Continuous Improvement Board. * Maintain monthly and annual statistics on generated, implemented, rejected ideas, and publish them on the Continuous Improvement Board. * Report monthly idea generation status to the Regional Operations Manager and Contract Manager. **6\. Quality Circle** * Led by the Engineering Manager; in their absence, the Continuous Improvement Leader and/or Continuous Improvement Engineer assumes responsibility. * Meet periodically to analyze and prioritize newly emerged ideas during the period. * Provide resources to implement ideas. * Monitor compliance with the Continuous Improvement Board workflow. * Support implementation of the Continuous Improvement Board process. * Formally communicate specific improvements to be made in application and/or operation to customers. **KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE** * Knowledge of condition monitoring strategy. * Knowledge of equipment maintenance and its applications. * Ability to interpret Gantt charts. * Proficiency in computer tools: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, Cat Inspect, SIS. * Knowledge of the Maintenance Operational Model. * Ability to interpret and analyze application severity and its impact on equipment maintenance. * Knowledge of CI projects. * Proficiency in management software (AMT, SAP). * Ability to analyze variables, KPIs, and management targets. * Knowledge of operational Standard Jobs. * Knowledge of contracts and external suppliers. * Knowledge of corporate contaminant control program. * Knowledge of CAT best practices (contaminant control). * Analytical and responsive capability to changes and/or adjustments in activities. * Ability to analyze, organize, and resolve numerical and statistical data issues. * Knowledge of maintenance tools (5 Whys, Ishikawa, Cause-and-Effect Diagram). * Ability to identify customer expectations (internal and external). * Intermediate spoken and written technical English. * Ability to evaluate personnel performance and productivity.
