At Walsh Colorado Engineering and Technology, we develop automation solutions designed to improve safety, productivity, reliability, and operational efficiency. We are seeking an **Industrial Automation Engineer** responsible for the design, implementation, and optimization of control systems used in our clients' facilities. The selected candidate will collaborate with electrical engineers, maintenance technicians, production managers, PLC programmers, suppliers, and corporate stakeholders to transform complex operational requirements into reliable, easily manageable automation solutions. This role involves more than just control system programming. The Industrial Automation Engineer will analyze production processes, identify improvement opportunities, and oversee projects from initial definition through commissioning and acceptance testing. The ideal candidate possesses solid technical expertise, experience with industrial facilities, and the ability to manage projects while meeting safety, performance, budget, and deadline requirements. **Key Responsibilities** * Design, develop, and implement industrial automation systems. * Analyze production processes and identify automation and improvement opportunities. * Program, configure, and test PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA systems. * Develop control logic for machinery, production lines, and industrial plants. * Configure sensors, actuators, inverters, motors, and control devices. * Integrate automation systems with industrial networks, databases, and enterprise platforms. * Prepare technical specifications, functional diagrams, and project documentation. * Read and update electrical schematics, floor plans, and technical drawings. * Support installation and commissioning of facilities at operational sites. * Perform functional tests, safety verifications, and commissioning activities. * Diagnose faults related to electrical, electronic, and control systems. * Identify root causes of malfunctions and propose definitive solutions. * Optimize control logic to improve productivity, quality, and energy consumption. * Collaborate with maintenance teams to reduce failures and downtime. * Support modernization and replacement projects for obsolete systems. * Configure monitoring systems, alarms, and operational data collection. * Participate in defining preventive and predictive maintenance strategies. * Ensure compliance with electrical and industrial safety regulations. * Coordinate external suppliers, installers, and technical consultants. * Evaluate quotations, components, equipment, and technical proposals. * Prepare reports on project progress, performance, costs, and critical issues. * Train operators and technicians on the use of new automation systems. * Provide technical support during commissioning, emergencies, and operational interruptions. * Stay updated on new technologies applicable to industrial automation. **Required Qualifications** * Minimum 5 years of experience in industrial automation, control engineering, or equivalent technical roles. * Bachelor’s degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field. * Hands-on experience in PLC programming and configuration. * Familiarity with Siemens, Rockwell Automation, Schneider Electric, or equivalent platforms. * Experience with HMI and SCADA systems. * Knowledge of sensors, actuators, inverters, drives, and industrial motors. * Ability to read electrical schematics and technical documentation. * Experience with industrial networks and protocols such as Modbus, Profibus, Profinet, Ethernet/IP, or equivalents. * Understanding of automatic control principles and industrial instrumentation. * Experience in facility commissioning and acceptance testing. * Ability to diagnose electrical, electronic, and software-related issues. * Knowledge of preventive and corrective maintenance processes. * Experience preparing technical specifications and project documentation. * Familiarity with safety regulations applicable to industrial facilities. * Ability to manage suppliers, technicians, and installation activities. * Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and technical reporting tools. * Willingness to travel to plants and operational sites as required. * Experience in mining, manufacturing, energy, or logistics sectors is preferred. * Technical certifications related to PLCs, SCADA, or industrial safety are considered advantageous. **Personal Competencies** * Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. * Strong focus on safety, reliability, and quality. * Ability to make sound technical decisions in complex situations. * Organized, pragmatic, and results-oriented approach. * Ability to manage multiple tasks, projects, and deadlines simultaneously. * Attention to detail and precision in technical documentation. * Strong communication and coordination skills. * Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, technicians, operators, and suppliers. * Autonomy in planning and executing tasks. * Willingness to respond during commissioning or operational critical events. * Commitment to continuous improvement and innovation. * Strong sense of responsibility and professional reliability.
