6The AMD Athlon 64 X2 is a series of x86-64 microprocessors designed by AMD for personal computers, launched in 2005. Introduced for Socket 939, it featured dual cores, a 2 GHz HyperTransport bus, a TDP of 110W–89W, and the SSE3 instruction set. Each core has its own dedicated cache, and the processors contain between 154 million and 233.2 million transistors. In 2006, they were relaunched for Socket AM2 using a 65 nm process, supporting DDR2 memory, and incorporating virtualization technologies and improvements in power efficiency.
