Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd. and Sumitomo Corporation jointly hold an indirect 30% interest. **Job Description** ------------------------- Closing Date: **January 28, 2026** Reporting to the Tailings Dam Operations Superintendent, the **Senior Tailings Dam Engineer** will be responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing the Tailings Management System (TMS), ensuring structural integrity and safety, regulatory and HSEC standard compliance, management of key performance indicators (KPIs), audits and budgets, and leading the implementation of quality plans and operational improvements for the tailings dam. Work location is at our Quebrada Blanca site, located in the Tarapacá Region at 4\.400 m above sea level, operating on a 7x7 day shift system. **Key Responsibilities** --------------------------------- * Be a courageous safety leader, adhering to and championing safety and environmental rules and procedures. * Design, implement, and oversee the Tailings Management System (TMS), ensuring compliance with applicable legal regulations and corporate standards for tailings dam management. * Monitor and analyze process, geotechnical, and construction parameters of the tailings dam, ensuring structural integrity and safety. * Manage and report key performance indicators (KPIs) associated with the tailings dam, including operational costs, audit compliance, and technical monitoring results. * Participate in the development and follow-up of the operational budget and the five-year plan (5YP) for tailings dam management. * Coordinate and supervise compliance with internal and external audits, including environmental, safety, and geotechnical reviews, ensuring implementation of corrective actions. * Implement and oversee compliance with the Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) plan for tailings dam construction, operation, and monitoring activities. * Ensure implementation of recommendations arising from inspections, audits, and technical reviews, including those conducted by SERNAGEOMIN and other regulatory bodies. * Lead the updating and maintenance of the Operations, Maintenance, and Monitoring Manual. * Ensure implementation of HSEC standards across all area activities, safeguarding people, the environment, and assets. **Requirements** -------------- * Professional degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or related fields. * Minimum 6 years of experience in mining tailings dam operations. * Experience in the design, construction, and operation of mining tailings dams. * Experience in managing and monitoring geotechnical and seepage parameters. * Knowledge of applicable legal regulations for tailings and environmental management (e.g., Supreme Decree No. 248, GISTM, Law No. 19\.300, among others). * Proficiency in risk analysis techniques and methodologies such as FMEA and HAZOP. * Familiarity with tailings management systems (TMS) and QA/QC plan development. * Experience in planning and controlling operational and project budgets. * Desirable experience in managing internal and external audits (TGR, DSI, DSR, GRB). * Experience working with multidisciplinary teams in areas such as geotechnics, environment, and operations. * Proficiency in specialized geotechnical and tailings monitoring software. * Intermediate technical English. * Class B driver’s license. * Availability to work at our Quebrada Blanca site, located in the Tarapacá Region at 4\.400 m above sea level, on a 7x7 day shift system. **About Teck** At Teck, we value diversity. Team Mek consists of 39 employees divided into six groups: mechanical, ventilation, valve, sheet metal and welding, industrial piping, and HVAC. As an HVAC- technician, you will belong to the HVAC group consisting of about five employees. Team Mek is a workplace characterized by good atmosphere and strong camaraderie.
