Job Mission: Analyze and manage animal behavior and welfare at the Biopark, design assessment programs and behavioral interventions, define species- or individual-specific objectives, and coordinate actions with other Animal Welfare departments to address identified needs. Main Functions: * Develop and implement the annual animal welfare assessment program, applying methodologies defined by the Department. * Conduct welfare assessments in response to significant events or changes in animals’ lives or management, applying the SPIDER system where appropriate. * Define behavioral and welfare objectives by taxon, species, or individual; participate in planning and evaluating the Enrichment Program; and coordinate targeted enrichments to support projects and behavioral interventions. * Align the Enrichment Program with behavioral and welfare objectives, and integrate comprehensive responses to specific needs. * Manage resolution of behavioral issues raised by the Animal Care Department, from analysis through to closure. * Conduct special behavioral assessments in handling situations or under particular animal conditions. * Continuously monitor animal behavior and welfare through observations and follow-up reports. * Design, implement, and supervise behavioral modification interventions, train involved staff, and maintain technical coordination with the Animal Care Department for implementation and continuity. * Participate in planning the arrival of new animals, promoting their adaptation and welfare. * Deliver animal behavior training to departments designated by management. * Proactively collaborate on other tasks essential to Biopark operations as requested by management.
