Handling server, network, and cabling incidents **DESCRIPTION** --------------- Amazon Web Services is seeking to hire a highly motivated, top-tier Data Center Technician to join our growing Infrastructure Operations team and provide hands-on support for its Data Center location. The scope of work includes: managing tasks and priorities through the ticketing system and coordinating with the Data Center Manager; troubleshooting and repairing servers experiencing hardware and network issues. The role involves hardware diagnostics and replacement of failed components. Candidates must be able to work effectively with minimal supervision and handle multiple priorities. The technician will be based in Santiago, but may also provide remote support to other Data Centers in the region as needed. They will be responsible for daily management of server, networking equipment, and cabling incidents. Data Center Operations is a 24x7 team, and this position requires non-standard working hours. Key job responsibilities * Work on and meet SLAs for assigned tickets through a defined workflow * First point of contact for hardware and technical issue resolution * Perform routine server hardware repairs (disks, motherboards, etc.) * Perform routine repairs related to networking, server hardware, and operating systems * Regularly collaborate with cross-functional teams to complete routine tasks * Adhere to data center security best practices * Identify and help develop improved processes relevant to the data center environment * Perform server upgrades, rebuilds, and scheduled maintenance as required * Interact with external vendors and contractors About the team This role presents a unique opportunity to work in some of the world’s most advanced data centers. A Data Center Technician works as part of the Operations team, whose primary responsibility is maintaining and preserving data center infrastructure. The candidate may serve as the primary point of contact for both internal customers (e.g., Network Engineers, Systems Engineers, Software Developers, Database Engineers, Technical Operations) and external customers (Hardware Vendors, Contractors, Service Providers, etc.). This is a full-time, shift-based position operating on a 24x7 rotation. The ideal candidate has hands-on hardware experience. **BASIC QUALIFICATIONS** ------------------------ * Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent professional experience * Experience with Linux or other operating systems and/or certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, and JNCIA * Knowledge of TCP/IP networking, cabling, fiber optic types, and testing equipment such as VFL, power meters, and OTDR * Experience working with virtualized enterprise networks and structured cabling methodologies * This position also has a physical component requiring the ability to lift and install equipment weighing up to 18 kg; it may require working in confined spaces or at elevated locations while adhering to health and safety guidelines **PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS** ---------------------------- * Experience executing or managing small-to-medium technical projects at the cluster level * Knowledge of network design, protocols, and troubleshooting * Hardware troubleshooting and component replacement experience * Broad understanding of infrastructure technologies Our inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers.
