Description
Position Summary:
We are seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to lead fieldwork, site investigations, and slope and tailings storage facility stability analyses for high-impact mining projects in northern Chile.
Key Highlights:
1. Lead world-class geotechnical engineering projects.
2. Collaborate with international infrastructure experts.
3. We prioritize a culture of safety, operational support, and employee well-being.
**About the Role:** Antofagasta is the heart of global mining, and at Infracon Global Mining \& Infrastructure SpA, we drive the infrastructure that keeps this critical sector moving. We deliver world-class geotechnical engineering and heavy civil infrastructure solutions, designed to address the most demanding technical and environmental challenges. We seek a qualified **Geotechnical Engineer** to lead fieldwork, site investigations, and stability analyses of slopes and tailings deposits. You will not merely review field data—you will be on-site driving engineering safety, field integrity, and operational success for high-impact mining projects in northern Chile.
**Why Join Us?**
* **The Environment:** Headquartered in Antofagasta—the country’s primary mining hub—our team stands out for technical precision, safety, and operational continuity on large-scale regional infrastructure projects.
* **Engineering Excellence:** We value technical judgment. Your experience will directly inform on-site decision-making, risk mitigation strategies, and critical design parameters from day one.
* **Professional Development:** You will work alongside international infrastructure experts, gaining experience in complex earthworks, tailings operations, and geomechanical monitoring systems.
* **Safety and Support:** We prioritize a culture of safety, operational support, and employee well-being, ensuring you have the tools, personal protective equipment, and logistical support needed to perform at your best.
**Key Responsibilities:**
* **Geotechnical Analysis and Monitoring:** Conduct slope stability analyses, field inspections, soil mechanics assessments, and rock mass characterization for mining and infrastructure sites.
* **Site Investigation and Fieldwork:** Lead and supervise on-site investigation campaigns, including geotechnical logging, soil/rock sampling, piezometer installation, and geotechnical drilling.
* **Design and Reporting:** Prepare high-quality geotechnical engineering reports, numerical modeling results, foundation recommendations, and technical specifications for clients.
* **Quality Assurance and Safety:** Ensure all civil and geotechnical field activities strictly comply with Chilean engineering regulations, site safety regulations, and project plans.
* **Stakeholder Collaboration:** Coordinate directly with construction managers, civil engineers, project directors, and client representatives to deliver clear, actionable technical guidance.
**Candidate Requirements:**
* **Education and Professional Degree:** University degree in Civil Engineering, Mining Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or Geology.
* **Experience:** Minimum 3 years of practical experience in geotechnics applied to mining, large-scale earthworks, or major civil infrastructure projects.
* **Technical Skills:** Proficiency in standard geotechnical software (e.g., GeoStudio, Rocscience suite) and knowledge of soil and rock mechanics testing protocols.
* **Languages:** Professional fluency in Spanish (mandatory); intermediate to fluent technical English is a significant advantage for internal reporting and client communication.
* **Location and Mobility:** Residence in Antofagasta (or willingness to relocate/transfer to the city), valid legal work authorization in Chile, and a current driver’s license for site visits.
